Volvo Group Reports Data Breach Following HR Supplier Ransomware Attack

Volvo Group has alerted employees that a cyber incident affecting its human resources software supplier, Miljödata, may have exposed personal information of some staff members.

The notification comes after Miljödata discovered a ransomware attack that began on August 20, 2025, and confirmed unauthorized access to employee records in early September.

Miljödata Ransomware Strike Affects Volvo HR

According to Volvo Group’s notice, Miljödata detected suspicious activity on August 23, 2025, and subsequently confirmed on September 2 that employee information had been compromised.

Volvo Group clarified that its own systems remained secure and that Miljödata operates as an independent vendor. The data potentially accessed includes first and last names along with Social Security numbers.

Upon learning of the incident, Volvo Group swiftly launched an inquiry in coordination with Miljödata to assess the breach’s full scope and nature.

  • Miljödata first became aware of irregular system behavior on August 23, 2025.
  • Confirmation of data exposure occurred on September 2, 2025.
  • Affected data fields include employees’ full names and SSNs.

Miljödata has engaged cybersecurity experts to investigate the attack and has implemented strengthened safeguards for its hosted environment. The vendor is reviewing internal policies, procedures, and tools to reduce the risk of future breaches.

Volvo Group continues to monitor developments closely and is working hand-in-hand with Miljödata to ensure that corrective measures are effective. In addition to the technical response, Volvo Group has arranged identity protection services for impacted employees.

  • Cybersecurity firm retained to conduct forensic analysis and remediation.
  • Enhanced network segmentation and multi-factor authentication rolled out.
  • Regular security audits and policy reviews scheduled quarterly.

In its notice, Volvo Group apologized for the inconvenience and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding employee information and maintaining transparency throughout the ongoing investigation.
