Tech Support Scam Exposed – CBI Cracks Down on Noida Operation Targeting UK and Australian Victims

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully dismantled a sophisticated transnational cybercrime syndicate that was systematically defrauding citizens of the United Kingdom and Australia through elaborate tech support scams.

The operation, conducted under the agency’s ongoing Operation Chakra-V initiative, represents a significant victory in the fight against cross-border cybercrime.

Coordinated International Raids Uncover Live Fraud Operations

On July 7, 2025, CBI operatives executed meticulously planned raids across three locations in Noida, including a fully operational fraudulent call center strategically located within the Noida Special Economic Zone.

The timing of the operation was deliberately synchronized with the time zones of potential victims, allowing investigators to witness live scam calls in progress during the raids.

The syndicate operated under the business name FirstIdea and employed advanced technological infrastructure to maintain cross-border anonymity while executing large-scale victim targeting.

The fraudsters posed as technical support representatives from reputable multinational corporations, notably Microsoft, convincing victims that their devices were compromised and extorting money for resolving fabricated technical issues.

Sophisticated Criminal Infrastructure Exposed

During the searches, investigators seized extensive evidence revealing the operation’s sophisticated nature.

The seized materials included advanced calling infrastructure, malicious scripts specifically designed to deceive victims, and comprehensive documentation detailing the fraud’s scope and methodology.

The technological sophistication of the operation enabled the criminals to maintain anonymity while conducting large-scale operations across international borders.

The CBI initiated the investigation after registering case RC 07/2025 based on credible intelligence about the syndicate’s activities.

The agency’s approach demonstrated the importance of international cooperation in combating modern cybercrime, working closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom, and Microsoft Corporation to trace the syndicate’s operations and identify key locations.

The operation resulted in the arrest of a key operative partner associated with FirstIdea, who was produced before the Special CBI Court on July 8, 2025.

This arrest represents a crucial step in dismantling the syndicate’s operational capabilities and sends a strong message to other cybercriminal organizations operating in the region.

The success of this operation underscores the CBI’s commitment to combating the growing menace of cybercrime through enhanced domestic and international partnerships.

Operation Chakra-V continues to strengthen the Bureau’s capabilities in detecting, investigating, and prosecuting cybercriminals who exploit technological vulnerabilities to target victims across borders.

This case highlights the evolving nature of cybercrime and the need for continued vigilance and international cooperation to protect citizens from sophisticated fraud schemes that exploit trust in legitimate technology companies.
